Establishing quality standards and measures is a vital piece of responding to current criticisms of residential care for children and youth with higher level needs. In 2015 the Florida Department of Children and Families and the Florida Coalition for Children convened a workgroup of key stakeholders in Florida (Group Care Quality Standards Workgroup) to develop a set of core quality standards for Florida’s residential group homes. These standards were used to guide residential care policy and develop a multi-informant residential quality care measure that will be embedded in the state’s licensing process. This measure has successfully undergone a feasibility pilot study, and is now undergoing a broader implementation pilot study. This webinar will conclude with discussing what has been learned from the Florida experience and how these lessons can be applied in advocating for quality residential care and sound policy development in other states.
