Webinar: Current Controversies in the Use of Psychiatric Medications for Children and Youth: A Critical Debate
ACRC’s eleventh position paper addressed the use of psychotropic medications in residential treatment facilities. Dr. Christopher Bellonci, former board president of ACRC and former medical director at a residential program, co-authored this timely paper to support ACRC’s mission of promoting best practices and innovation.
On this webinar, Dr Bellonci will discuss current patterns of medication use and the opportunity to use residential stays as a setting for thoughtful medication reassessment, and participants will learn current prescribing trends and some of the causes of these trends in children’s mental health.
They will be able to discuss the developmental competencies that can be taught in the service of positive lifetime outcomes for youth and families.
Finally, participants will develop critical thinking skills regarding the role of psychiatric medications in the treatment of mental illnesses and behavioral disorders in children and adolescents.
Presenter: Christopher Bellonci, M.D., DFAACAP, Vice President of Policy and Practice, Chief Medical Officer, Judge Baker Children’s Center
