This webinar presents strategies for residential programs to strengthen the capacity of their organization to work with children and families who have been affected by traumatic experiences. Many of the common trends related to trauma include a focus on the negative such as ‘secondary trauma’ and ‘vicarious trauma’. Participants will be challenged to view working with children and families affected by trauma as a sacred opportunity which is to be embraced (and managed) rather than avoided. Recognizable signs of trauma among individuals, teams, and the overall organization will be discussed as well as specific strategies to bolster organizational resilience and preparation to provide high-quality services to high-need situations. Resources will be shared as well as time for questions and answers.
At the end of this webinar participants will be able to:
• List recognizable signs of trauma in individuals, teams, and organizations
• Describe strategies to prepare individuals, teams, and organizations to better receive and support those experiencing trauma
• Access resources to help asses and prepare their organization prepare to work with children and families affected by traumatic experiences
