Narrowing the Divide between Us and Them: Examining the Role of Race and Privilege in the Care and Treatment of Commercially Sexually Exploited Youth and their Families.  Presented by: Dana Wyss, PhD, LMFT, ATR and Nicole Klasey, PsyD

Privilege is a topic that greatly impacts our work and our own lives. The more we identify the role privilege plays in our own life, the more we can avoid unintentional oppression and help use our privilege to support the clients with whom we work. Direct care staff, therapist and managers in residential programs are often faced with concerns about racial and social economic status differences that could impact treatment and proper identification of needs. Throughout awareness of our privilege and the privileges of those we serve we can move to more effective treatment that offers equity and empowerment.
