Director of Residential Operations – The Buckeye Ranch

The Buckeye Ranch is currently seeking a Director of Residential Operations for our Residential campus for youth. Nine houses on the campus serve up to 92 youth at a time, serving about 300 children annually. The Buckeye Ranch utilizes a trauma-informed, family-centered treatment approach to successfully transition youth back to their community.

The Director of Residential Operations is responsible for the overall financial, operational, and milieu management of the Buckeye Ranch’s Residential Treatment Services Program, assuring that all aspects of resident care are performed in accordance with The Buckeye Ranch policies and procedures and established licensure and certification standards. Coordinates all aspects of designated program functioning with other programs and assists in program development, implementation, evaluation, and other duties assigned. Reports to the Vice President of Residential Services.

  • Manages the milieu management team, promoting an ongoing culture of employee recognition and creating an atmosphere of teamwork. Works to achieve high employee satisfaction and retention.
  • Collaborates with leaders, including the Director of Clinical Services and Director of Nursing, and cross functional teams to identify and implement solutions that support improvements or growth.
  • Monitors and manages occupancy rate of beds including admits, transfers and discharges.
  • Initiates/convenes/participates in critical incident reviews and patient case monitoring.
  • Allocates and accounts for the use of fiscal resources. Seeks ways to increase revenue costs. Successfully manages overall and/or departmental budget.
  • Plans, manages, and achieves project milestones, quality, customer satisfaction, budget and profitability. Manages multiple priorities and adapts to changes in procedures and conditions.
  • Proactively & effectively identifies, assesses, and develops solutions to prevent, eliminate or reduce risks to the organization.
  • Effectively develops departmental short- and long-range strategic plans, as well as attains related organizational strategic goals.
  • Advocates on behalf of clients and families with external agencies, within the family, and with Ranch staff.
  • Completes or supports continuous quality reviews and monitoring of pertinent data and procedures as needed for contracts, licensure, accreditation, etc.


  • Education: Master’s Degree in behavioral health, healthcare administration or related area.
  • Experience: Seven years or more of experience in the field of behavioral health with a minimum of five years of behavioral health supervisory/management experience.
  • Certificates & Licenses: Certified or Licensed Social Worker (LSW) or Licensed Professional Counselor LPC). Higher licensing designations preferred (e.g., LISW-S).
  • Computer Skills: Proficiency with computer programs necessary to complete the above tasks, including experience with Electronic Health Records
  • Driving: An essential function of position and employee must keep insurance on their vehicle and driving record in accordance with policies. Valid driver’s license is required.
  • Other: Demonstrated experience related to compliance with a variety of regulatory/licensure agencies. Demonstrated leadership abilities with strong organizational and motivational skills. In-depth knowledge of Group dynamics, Trauma Informed Care, co-occurring disorders and evidenced based treatment. Ability to effectively communicate with referral agencies, community organizations, educational institutions and other professionals in the human service area.
