Job Description – Registered Nurse at LaSalle School

Qualifications - Required:

Registered Nurse with current New York State License. License needs to be on file and accessible. Minimum of 5 years experience is preferred. Must be able to perform multiple tasks and must possess the ability to quickly assess and triage as assessment indicates. Professionalism is essential. Must have flexibility regarding schedule. Maintaining current CPR certification is required.

Reports to: Nursing Supervisor

Overview of Position: The staff nurse is responsible for the overview of the health care needs of all students of LaSalle. Decisions and responsibility for the care of the students are met as needed, in the best judgment of the RN on duty and in consultation with other ancillary providers, internal and external on an ongoing basis.

General Responsibilities/Duties:

Providing nursing care to male adolescents in a residential setting. Providing immediate first aid and triage and refer as needed for appropriate treatment. Update immunizations as per LaSalle procedure in accordance with N.Y.S. Health Laws. Act as community liaison with outside providers and advocate for timely delivery of health care. Assist other agency team members in providing medical, emotional, and psychological support to students in various stages of crisis. Administer all medications and perform all treatments ordered by MD in a timely and diligent manner. Complete documentation on appropriate records all pertinent medical information. Schedule and record any medically necessary requests to see a MD. Use and perform professional nursing judgment in the treatment of ill or injured students and refer appropriate as needed. Prepare required medical reports and other documents related to the health care of the students. Attend staff meetings, care conferences, and in services as requested to discuss new medical practices or procedures, and to coordinate with other members of the nursing team to ensure continuity of care. Be available for coverage in case of emergencies, or in times of increased workload, including coverage of alternate shifts to meet staffing needs should they occur. Perform all duties that may arise in order to assure quality medical care for our clients.
