The Importance of Considering Childhood Adversity Patterns When Working with Youth in Residential Care

Exposure to childhood adversity (CA) increases youth’s risk for poor clinical outcomes. We explore CA patterns and associated externalizing and internalizing in residential care youth and investigate ethnic/racial and sex differences in these associations. We also discuss recommendations for incorporating CA screeners at intake and in treatment planning.
