About the Project

The Leaders of Color Project was founded in 2016 as part of the Building Bridges Initiative’s Provider Exchange to expand support of a diverse group of health and human services leaders and consultants. The group has grown from 8 members to 29 core members from organizations across the country who guide LoC’s work.

Together, members have developed position papers, hosted national summits, and created resources to strengthen leadership pathways and improve outcomes for children, youth, families, and professionals in the field of health and human services. Our work is guided by collaboration, learning, and shared commitment to ensuring all people have the opportunity to reach their highest potential.

The work of this group is energized through annual summits where our community gathers to learn, reflect, and turn shared vision into collective action:

  • Baltimore MD (April 2022)
  • Atlanta, GA (May 2023)
  • Phoenix AZ (May 2024)
  • Boston, MA (March 2025)
  • Chicago, IL (March 2026)

Our Mission

To connect, support, and elevate leaders from historically underserved communities in collaboration with national and international organizations and stakeholders dedicated to creating positive impact, just policies, and effective practices to benefit children, youth, and families.

Our Vision

A future driven by empowered leaders from underserved communities who ignite systemic change so that every child, youth, and family thrives.

Our Values

  • To actively pursue partnerships with organizations and groups that share our mission and values.
  • To endorse the broad definition of family that encompasses the varied realities of familial existence, any confluence of two or more individuals united in bonding.
  • To execute our efforts through an intersectional lens to uplift the diverse experiences that influence and drive our work.
