Movie 2: Antwone Fisher | 5-8 pm

Antwone Fisher is a 2002 American biographical drama film directed by and starring Denzel Washington. He stars in the film as the psychiatrist Jerome Davenport, alongside Derek Luke, who plays the title role (and personally knew the real Antwone Fisher). The film is inspired by a true story, with Antwone Fisher credited as the screenwriter, and is based on his autobiographical book Finding Fish. This is a touching story of a sailor who, prone to violent outbursts, is sent to a naval psychiatrist (Denzel Washington) for help. Refusing at first to open up, the young man eventually breaks down and reveals a horrific childhood spent in foster care, including spending time at ACRC member organization George Junior Republic. Through the guidance of his new doctor, he confronts his painful past and begins a quest to find the family he never knew. ACRC welcomes Antwone Fisher to San Diego and is thrilled to have him introduce the movie this evening. Following the full screening (2.5 hours), Antwone will sign his autobiography Finding Fish for attendees.
