Why We Can’t Throw Managers the Keys and Hope for the Best

Like so many other ACRC members, LaSalle School has found that social workers and childcare staff who do great work on the line, quickly get promoted to supervise. While this has led to a highly dedicated team of middle managers, we’re not always helping them to develop that new set of skills they need to be successful, and our staff have noticed. In response to feedback received from staff during an annual staff satisfaction survey, LaSalle School began to embark on a path to better develop these leaders by getting them formal business and management training in partnership with a local business school. This workshop will discuss the process of responding to staff and management needs, developing a custom curriculum, provide some early outcomes and feedback, and share a few thoughts above next steps.
