Module 4: Objectives

MODULE 4: The Basics for Engaging Families

Objectives:

The objectives of this module are to:

  1. Offer insights based on feedback from families with lived experience, and from program leaders who have committed to family engagement.
  2. Highlight the role of trauma experienced by families prior to residential interventions, including how staff can approach family members in a way that empathizes with and honors this difficult experience.
  3. Describe how organizations can operationalize their commitment to family engagement through concrete strategies, such as committing to hiring Family/Parent Partners, putting a strong emphasis on cultural and linguistic competence, and working with families in their homes and communities.
  4. Provide strategies for respectful, culturally competent, and effective communication with family members.
