The MDQ screens for bipolar disorder (which includes bipolar I, bipolar II, and bipolar NOS). There is also a Mood Disorder Questionnaire-Adolescent Version for use in adolescent population.

The MDQ was originally developed for the adult population, but an adolescent self-score and caregiver version are also available. For the adolescent version, a score of 5 or more items on the parent version yielded a sensitivity of 0.72 and specificity of 0.81, which were superior to self and attributional versions.
