Position Summary:

The Nevada Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced healthcare executive to serve as the Hospital Administrator for Desert Willow Treatment Center (DWTC), Nevada’s only state-operated psychiatric hospital dedicated to serving children and adolescents. This executive leadership position provides the opportunity to oversee critical hospital operations and lead efforts to establish DWTC as Nevada’s premier provider of high-quality inpatient behavioral healthcare for youth.

Desert Willow Treatment Center serves as a vital component of Nevada’s behavioral health system and functions as a safety-net hospital for children and adolescents with significant mental health treatment needs. The licensed 54-bed psychiatric hospital provides specialized residential and inpatient psychiatric services for youth with severe emotional and behavioral health needs through multiple treatment units serving diverse populations.

Requirements:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or a related field required. Equivalent professional experience may be considered.

Experience: Five (5) years of professional experience in an operational leadership role within a healthcare delivery organization.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Significant leadership experience in hospital administration, healthcare operations, behavioral health services, or a related healthcare environment.
  • Demonstrated expertise in healthcare finance, budgeting, regulatory compliance, accreditation, and operational management.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams within complex and highly regulated organizations.
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare regulations, accreditation standards, risk management, and quality improvement principles.
  • Proven ability to manage organizational change and drive performance improvement initiatives.
  • Commitment to advancing high-quality care and improving outcomes for children, adolescents, and families.

Key Expectations/Responsibilities:

Hospital Operations:

  • Direct and oversee the daily administrative operations of Desert Willow Treatment Center.
  • Provide executive leadership for facility operations, environmental safety, emergency preparedness, and security functions.
  • Ensure efficient and effective hospital operations while maintaining a safe therapeutic environment for youth.

Operational Leadership:

  • Manage operational activities including workforce planning, employee relations, staffing strategies, recruitment, retention, and labor management.
  • Monitor staffing expenditures and overtime utilization while implementing strategies to improve operational efficiency.
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams and foster collaboration across clinical and operational departments.

Compliance & Quality Improvement:

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state laws, regulations, licensing requirements, and healthcare standards.
  • Coordinate with the DCFS Policy and Evaluation Unit to support hospital accreditation efforts.
  • Lead continuous quality improvement initiatives to strengthen operational performance and patient outcomes.
  • Promote adherence to accreditation standards, risk management practices, and regulatory requirements.

Strategic Leadership:

  • Support the ongoing development and transformation of Desert Willow Treatment Center into Nevada’s leading inpatient behavioral health hospital for children and adolescents.
  • Drive organizational change and implement performance improvement initiatives.
  • Promote a culture of excellence, accountability, innovation, and collaboration.
  • Advance high-quality care and improve outcomes for children, adolescents, and families served by the hospital.
