Murray McKinnon Foundation is seeking one full-time Youth Worker to join our team at our male Open Custody/Detention youth justice facility in Oshawa. This position involves rotating continental shift work, including days, nights, statutory holidays, weekdays, and weekends.

As a Youth Worker, you will provide supervision, mentorship, and daily support to young persons at risk or in conflict with the law. You will help them build life skills, achieve their personal goals, and ensure their voices are heard in all aspects of their care and planning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide supervision and guidance to young persons

  • Act as Primary Worker, preparing Case Management Plans and discharge reports
  • Create and deliver life-skills and educational programming
  • Support youth in meeting their personal goals
  • Work collaboratively with team members to ensure a safe, supportive environment

The Person

  • Completed post-secondary education, with practicum experience, in a related field such as Child and Youth Care, Community Justice, Criminology, Corrections, Mental Health/Addictions, Psychology, or Social Services.
  • Those with prior work experience in a residential setting are preferred.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and harm reduction, trauma-informed, anti- oppressive practices as well as a client centred, strength-based approach to working with young persons are key components of this position.
  • A valid G level driver’s license; with proof of a safe driving record,
  • Medical note that you are fit for this type of work,
  • Proof of Immunization Records,
  • Provision of an acceptable Broad Record Check.
