Janice has extensive experience across youth, community, residential and edge of care services. Working closely with Martin Kelly (NYCC’s Assistant Director) and building on ‘good’ residential services, the NWD model was developed in 2014. It was part of the English government’s Innovation Programme (Rethinking Care for Adolescents) gaining additional funding to bring this innovative model to life. Its unique approach to working with complex youth has been evaluated and used to drive evidence informed and improved practice across the UK and beyond.
Involved since the inception of NWD, Janice is a committed advocate of creative and flexible residential and edge of care support, to keep young people within their family or community and within North Yorkshire.
Janice is passionate about improving the life chances of disadvantaged youth through strength based and restorative approaches. Integral to this is a strong belief that relationships are at the heart of practice across youth, staff teams and key partners. She believes that a vibrant ‘learning community’ is vital to this complex work and that skills, experience and resources can be shared and pooled, to not only benefit those we support but to deliver improved and more cost effective services.
