About the Project

The Leaders of Color workgroup has grown from 8 members to over 25 members from organizations across the country. Together they have written three position papers including the most recent one with a focus on navigating homogenous cultures within our field and the distinct challenges leaders of color face.

The work of this group has been energized by several virtual summits and more recently, three in-person summits – one in Baltimore, MD in April 2022 and one in Atlanta, GA in May 2023, and one in Phoenix, AZ in May 2024.

Our Mission

We aim to establish connections with Leaders of Color and other individuals, collaborating with national and international organizations and stakeholders who are dedicated to enhancing the results for children, youth, families, individuals, and BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) professionals affected by marginalized systems. We strive to promote equity and racial justice by advocating for and implementing anti-racist policies and practices.

Our Vision

We envision a world where all individuals, groups, and organizations value and practice equity and racial justice.

Our Values

  • To actively pursue partnerships with organizations and groups that share our mission and values.
  • To endorse the broad definition of family that encompasses the varied realities of familial existence, any confluence of two or more individuals united in bonding.
  • To execute our efforts through an intersectional lens to uplift the diverse experiences that influence and drive our work.
