Operationalizing Permanency Practices in a Residential Setting

Room: Commonwealth 2

Children and young people who experience a residential treatment intervention during their life are forever impacted by their experiences within those programs. In effort to maximize delivering a positive impact to children and youth who experience a residential intervention it is incumbent on residential providers to ensure that part of their intervention is always focused on ensuring that their residents are positively connected to their family and have the optimal chance to discharge with a safe, stable, emotionally secure parenting relationship.

Beginning in 2011, Plummer Youth Promise embraced a vision for change and a commitment to a permanency-focused residential intervention. While raising awareness, mobilizing, and involving the board, funders, staff, youth, family and community partners in this organizational shift, Plummer implemented five key factors in the milieu to leverage more permanency-focused treatment for youth.

One of the prominent factors was the design and implementation of Plummer’s Permanency Intervention which consists of Family Search & Engagement, Youth-Guided- Family-Driven Teaming and Permanency Readiness.
