The Way It Is: Restraint-Free Residential Intervention

In June of 2012, Youth Development Institute (YDI) embarked on a quest for the “holy grail” of restraint elimination. From an average of over 30 restraints per month, YDI attained the goal of restraint elimination in July of 2017. YDI staff who lived the transition will tell the story of YDI’s experience: our failures, our successes, our innovations, our continuing challenges and the lessons learned along the way.
